Blossom has already been hosting plenty of live music events, thanks to the Cleveland Orchestra’s residency at the summer venue. But this weekend, concert promoter Live Nation kicks off its first show of many, marking a major return to live rock music here in Northeast Ohio. “We are incredibly excited about the return to live music at Blossom Music Center. Hosting two iconic Rock Hall inductees James Taylor and Jackson Browne makes this grand reopening even more pleasurable. James holds the venue record for the most performances by any performer,” said Barry Gabel, Live Nation’s senior vice president of marketing and sponsorship sales. “The Live Nation staff and Blossom crew are back in the memory-making business, and we couldn’t be happier.” It all goes down at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, with Taylor and Browne performing their classic tunes at the massive outdoor venue, located at 1145 W. Steels Corners Road in Cuyahoga Falls. Looking to head out to enjoy the show? Here are 10 things you should know, before you go: Longtime Blossom Favorites James Taylor is no stranger to the venue. The singer-songwriter has surpassed any other Blossom headliner (well, except the Cleveland Orchestra), performing there a whopping 25 times in the past five decades. That makes Taylor a perfect fit for the first show back after the pandemic -- along with Jackson Browne, who has hit the stage numerous times over the years, too. The two were originally slated to perform at Blossom in 2020, but the tour was rescheduled a couple of times because of the pandemic. New tunes Both Taylor and Browne will have new music to support at the concert. Taylor released his latest album, “American Standard” last year, and Browne put out his latest album, “Downhill from Everywhere,” this summer. Browne’s album includes what will surely be a new favorite for Northeast Ohio music fans: a track called “My Cleveland Heart,” inspired by a drive he took around Cleveland region. Weather According to forecasts from the National Weather Service, the weather seems to be holding out for Saturday evening, cooling off a little with a high near 77 and a low around 60. But then again, this is Northeast Ohio; the weather could shift as the concert nears. Bring a rain jacket and an umbrella, particularly if you have lawn seats. Tickets Some tickets remain available for the show on Live Nation’s website. Lawn seats are still available at $38.50, and seats in the pavilion are available on a resale basis, starting at $188. So, if you want to save a few bucks, it might be better to sit in the grass under the stars for this one. Blossom season Due to delays and setbacks around the coronavirus pandemic, the Live Nation concert schedule at Blossom Music Center extends further into the year than it did in 2018 or 2019, which both wrapped up in mid-September. This year, shows are scheduled well past that, running all the way up to Oct. 15 with Jason Aldean’s “Back in the Saddle” tour stop. Other highlights in the Blossom 2021 season include Kings of Leon (Aug. 19), Maroon 5 (Aug. 26), Alanis Morissette (Sept. 8), The Doobie Brothers (Sept. 9), Jonas Brothers (Sept. 22) and more. Check out the full schedule at livenation.com. $20 deal Hoping to save some money on concert tickets this season? Live Nation is offering a special all-in $20 deal for select shows. The offer is available from July 28-Aug. 1, while supplies last, and includes plenty of Blossom Music Center shows. Unfortunately, that list doesn’t include James Taylor, but it does include Jonas Brothers, Kings of Leon, Alanis Morissette and more. Check out the deal at returntolive.livenation.com. COVID-19 precautions Face masks are only recommended for unvaccinated concert attendees at Blossom, based on CDC guidelines. Live Nation’s website states that attendees experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should stay home. Beyond those notes, Blossom’s COVID-19 protocols include extra sanitization measures, including disinfecting high-touch areas like handrails, restrooms and merchandise stands. New hand sanitizer stations have been added around the venue, and disinfectant wipes should be available at dining areas, bars and bathrooms, according to Live Nation’s website. If you’re hoping to purchase food, drinks or merchandise at Blossom, bring a credit or debit card -- not cash. The venue has shifted to a cashless system for 2021, meaning it will only accept credit cards, debit cards or mobile pay options like Google Pay and Apple Pay. Mobile tickets Get your tickets ready on your phone, instead of printing them out. Live Nation will no longer offer print-at-home tickets for Blossom Music Center shows in 2021. (However, shows that previously offered print-at-home or mail tickets will honor them at upcoming dates.) ow, tickets can be accessed through Live Nation’s App, or by adding tickets to your cell phone’s mobile wallet through Live Nation’s website. If customers experience phone issues, they can visit the box office on the day of the show, according to Live Nation’s website. New bag policy Music fans should be aware of Blossom’s new bag policy, before they get to the gates. The venue now only allows clear, see-through plastic bags that are less than 12 by 6 by 12 inches. Small clutch bags (4.5 by 6.5 inches) are also allowed. Bags can be searched when attendees arrive. If any items or bags are not permitted, attendees will need to walk them back to their cars before the show, or discard them -- so, be prepared, to avoid the extra trek! Know what to leave at home It’s always good to review the allowed-item list before heading to the show. This summer, you can bring in factory-sealed water bottles (up to 20 ounces) or empty water bottles to fill up at Blossom -- but, individual shows may have different rules. You can also bring in food, in a clear, one-gallon plastic bag, according to Live Nation’s website. Make sure your sunscreen and bug spray aren’t in aerosol cans, and leave any cans or glass containers at home. An important rule to note: these lists can change based on artist requests -- so, while some events might allow food and water, others might not. Be sure to check Blossom Music Center’s website ahead of events, along with individual show details. Blossom Music Center, locally referred to simply as Blossom, is an outdoor amphitheatre in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, United States. The venue is the summer home of The Cleveland Orchestra and the site of the ensemble’s annual Blossom Festival. Blossom Music Center is owned by the Musical Arts Association, the Orchestra’s parent organization.
