Description: This is for a set of TWO (2), Hand Carved "Iculanibokola" or Cannibal Forks. They are carved out of "Vau" wood and are from Fiji. They are from the late 1950's to the early 1960's and were hand carved by local Fijian craftsman. These were also used as a type of dagger in later years. To the Fijian people these were considered great works of art and had religious value to the people. The history of this type of fork dates back to prehistoric times. They came to be for a few reasons. One was that it was a cultural taboo that prohibited priests and chiefs from touching food with their hands and were not used by everyone only the chieftains for ceremonies to devour their tribal enemies.
