Description: Fantastic vintage Marwal Industries large scale zebra molded resin statue or sculpture. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are a few nicks and marks on the finish as you would expect for age but nothing outstanding. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1970’s. DID YOU KNOW… (According to the San Diego Zoo) Zebras have white stripes next to black or brown stripes, with the stripes ending at their bellies and the inner side of the legs, which are white, However, zebras have black skin under their coats…. SO, does that mean that Zebras are technically black with white stripes OR white with black stripes? EITHER WAY… aren’t they one of the most phenomenal, majestic animals on this planet? We certainly think so… and this beauty stamped by Marwal Industries is no exception to the rule! It’s a large-scale molded zebra sculpture or statue comprised of molded resin and hand painted with lovely realistic details. She has a peaceful aura as she lays calmly in her restful position awaiting her chance to be placed on the perfect tabletop, buffet, or credenza top, or on the hearth or floor next to the fireplace in your home. It is modern in style and the EPITOME of 1970’s design, but it will blend beautifully with almost ANY décor. It would be wonderful in a maximalist setting displayed as a lovely centerpiece on a dining table or surrounded by plants and foliage on a table in a sunroom. Marwal Industries Inc. was founded in Brooklyn, NY, around the mid-1960s, by Romanian immigrant Marcel Walters. Walters used the first syllables of his first and last names, to name his company. He worked as a salesman in Brooklyn for a company that made statues and sculptures which inspired him to start his own company. Marwal produced chalkware sculptures and statues that were made with Hydrastone, a mixture of plaster of Paris and gypsum. Marwal products consisted of over 200 figurines, sculptures, and statues. The lines included those with traditional figures, museum reproductions, Oriental figures, bookends, Bali heads, animals, and modern sculptures. Marwal had both a permanent showroom in New York City and Dallas as well as independent representatives with showrooms in Kansas City, Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Chicago selling their products. In addition, some retailers they sold to include J. C. Penny, Montgomery Ward, and Sears. In the 70’s Marwal moved to Florida and began creating a line of painted plastic animals, some that were almost three feet tall. The company’s sales began to decline in the mid-70’s and they shut down in the mid-80’s. The black and white of it is, you NEED this large-scale zebra sculpture by Marwal Industries in your life!
