Description: A 1968 US VII ARMY CORPS EUROPE Informal / Unofficial enameled MEDAL featuring the JAYHAWK. The VII Corps was nicknamed the Jayhawk Corps. This MEDAL was given out to VIPS, local German dignitaries, and to recognize exceptional soldiers. It was often presented during FASCHING, the German holiday equivalent to Carnival before Lent. The use of this medal is similar to the current use of the challenge coin.The VII Army Corps of the United States Army was one of the two principal corps of the US Army Europe during the Cold War. During the Cold War it was subordinate to the Seventh Army or USAREUR and was headquartered at Kelley Barracks, Stuttgart, West Germany. The medal was the property of then Brigadier General John F. Freund, who was, at the time, Chief of Staff US VII Army Corps Europe.
