Description: This listing is for a rare 1927 Type 1 Original Photo of Aviator Charles Lindbergh. In this important photo you see Lindbergh in a up close portrait right before taking off on his "Goodwill tour". Lindbergh had already been tagged a hero and had reached all new heights after flying on his famous Atlantic Tour in the "Spirit of St Louis". He had been asked to fly a 9500 mile flight to all of our neighbors south of the border which would be called the "Goodwill Tour". In 1904 Roosevelt had created the Monroe doctrine that declared the United States had the right to intervene in the internal affairs of our southern neighbors. This doctrine had gone stale over the years in Roosevelt was eager to get these countries recommitted. 25-year-old Lindbergh was the most famous man in the world at the moment and was excited to visit these countries and to introduce more people into aviation. He had told the New York times, "although my primary interest is to visit the country as an aviator, I also hope that the flight will show the way in which aviation brings the Peoples of the world together in better understanding of each other". I added an extra image in the listing that shows the map where Lindbergh would fly the 9,500 miles from country to country so you could see the route. This photo was taken by legendary photographer George Grantham bain. He was one of the top few pre-war photographers and his work has always sold for a major premium. A lot of his early work was burnt in a fire and the rest of his archive was consolidated and eventually owned and housed by the Library of Congress. This photo was taken December 13th 1927 and the date is written on the back and editorial writing. This photo is credited to George Grantham bain which you could see a partial stamp on the bottom corner. His famous 255 canal Street New York, NY is seen hiding under a Culver pictures sticker which was very normal for Bain photos. His archive was consolidated by Culver pictures Inc so majority of his photos will have Culver stamps stickers covering his work that were added at a later time. The size of this photo is 5x7 which is also very common for Bain photos. The photos in good condition with a couple hairline creases on the right corners as well with minor wrinkles throughout and a small light stain on the left border. This is truly a incredible portrait and will be a great addition in any photo collection whether you collect history, Pulitzer prize winners, aviation etc. Don't want this one slip away!
