The lectures were delivered at the Working Men's Institute, Camberwell, Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and Bradford Town Hall. 'Sesame and Lilies' is a collection of three essays, concerned with education and ideal conduct. 'Of Kings' Treasuries' deals with reading practice, literature, cultural value, and public education. 'Of Queens' Gardens' deals with the role of women, their rights and duties in education, and their compassion. John Ruskin was an art critic in Victorian England, being an influential figure in the art world, especially with the Pre-Raphaelites. He was also greatly admired by Leo Tolstoy, Marcel Proust, and William Morris. CONDITION In the original full vellum signed binding by Bumpus Ltd. Externally, with markings causing some discolouration to the boards and spine, as is usual with vellum binding, though heavier to 'Sesame and Lilies'. A little fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd scattered spot heavier to the first and last few pages of each volume.
