Description: Popular and rare Civil War Philadelphia Mint issue. As silver coins became hoarded and replaced in commerce with fractional currency, Philadelphia mintages of Seated Quarters dropped annually between 1861 and 1865. 1863 saw a mintage of just 191,600 pieces, compared to the 4,853,600 quarters struck in 1861. PCGS reports 16 finer. Natural, light toning with lots of die polish lines (as minted), adding interest and giving this example a moderate prooflike effect. A lovely gem with great frosty luster. - Liberty Seated Quarter
