Description: We are offering an 1834 Stampless Letter / Postal Cover. There is no stamped postmark and no postage notation normally found in the upper right corner. **NOTE** - there is no postage stamp, as postage stamps were not issued until 1847. The letter dated August 2, 1834, is addressed to T. R. Miles, Esq., Cashier, Wareham, Massachusetts, and is from Esora? Thompson. The letter begins "To the Directors of the Wareham Bank". This is a 2 1/2 page letter, and the writing is sometimes difficult to make out. We have skimmed through it and have been able to come up with the gist of it. Captain Nye, whom it appears was president of the Wareham Bank, was notified by the bank's directors on some matter. The writer references Nye & Thompson (a company) and states that their reputation had been battered by Pratt and his private emissaries. Of course, there is way more to the letter, but time not permitting, we won't be able to decipher it entirely. It seems to be interesting, though, and if someone takes the time to read it carefully, they should be able to get a lot more out of it. **NOTE** - As was common during this period, the letter also served as the envelope by folding it a certain way, addressing it, and sealing with a red wax seal.
