Attractive green spines lightly abraded with heavier wear at joints. Marbled green and yellow boards remain bright albeit scuffed at the edges and slightly toned. Presentation inscription by the engraver William Harvey on second flys dated 17 May 1834. Front gutters are tender and foxed. Interiors are good with light toning to edges and minor instances of foxing. Free of known marginalia. Bindings are tight and intact. Sound. A receipt from Horace G. Common Ltd. The first record of the menagerie of the Zoological Society presented by the engraver William Harvey (1766-1866). Founded in 1826 with botanical gardens and a zoological collection at Regent’s Park, the Zoological Society of London was soon established as the foremost natural history collection in Europe, receiving the Royal Menagerie from William IV in 1831.
