The 3rd Watermark £1 GREY was printed by T.S. HARRISON off the Die IIB Plates in one single printing made in April 1924. The stamp was issued on 1 May 1924. Just the one Plate was used with 120 stamps-on, in two Panes of 60. Each Pane contained 60 stamps in 10 horizontal Rows of 6. The stamp was used as the 'higher telegram rate' and to make up the bulk postage charges of the time. From the single printing in 1924, only 610,640 stamps were produced in the 3rd Watermark. This was a very limited print-run. The TYPE D "SPECIMEN" OVERPRINT was applied to the 3rd Watermark £1 GREY; the £2 Small Multiple Watermark and the 10/-, £1 and £2 in CofA to 'make up' presentation packs for sale to the general public. THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS' CATALOGUE "KANGAROOS" 2021 lists this 3rd Watermark marsupial as: ACSC 53Axh: £1 GREY - 2021 CV$375 (MINT LIGHTLY HINGED) Please note the very fresh colour back and front. There is only the very slightest of evidence of a former hinge (full gum). It is just a little centered to the left but a stunning example of this scarce Australian stamp. The ACSC *STATES: "There was a single printing of the Type D SPECIMEN overprint comprising 1,200 stamps, delivered in December 1932. An archival record indicates that of this quantity, 600 were spoilt, thus only 600 may have been issued. One block of 4 and a pair have been recorded".BUY WITH CONFIDENCE.
